The interview
girlydeath started making music in quarantine at fourteen, inspired by people his own age putting tracks on SoundCloud. Six years later he finally had an idea he thought was worth releasing. “streetwise” arrived in 2026 and got played at a the hellp pop-up in Santa Monica within weeks. We caught him the day after his second single.
I was planning to scrap it, but Noah Dillon found a snippet and asked if I had the full track. So I finished it that same day.

Tell me a bit about where you’re from, how you got into making music, and anything else you feel people should know about girlydeath.
I’m from Los Angeles. I got into making music during quarantine in 2020, when I was fourteen. Seeing so many people my age making incredible music on SoundCloud inspired me to start creating my own. As for right now, if someone asked me for the single biggest inspiration behind girlydeath I would just send them a link to Skrillex’s Summit MV.
“streetwise” sounds like the work of someone who’s been at this for a while. How long did you spend making music before you felt something was ready to be put out?
I’ve been producing all sorts of music for around six years, but only up until this year I felt like I had an idea great enough for a release. Alongside the music, working on the visuals for girlydeath has been extremely fun for me and it feels like a culmination of all the different ways I like to be creative.

Walk me through your creative process for “streetwise”, how did this go from an idea or feeling into a complete song?
Not going to lie, I was just trying to make a song that sounded like “distribution” by the hellp and felt like it needed some vocals, so I ripped vocals from “streetwise” by pretty sick and messed around with them until it sounded cool. I never ended up finishing the song and was planning to scrap it, but funnily enough, Noah Dillon found a snippet of it and asked if I had the full track, so I finished it that same day and sent it over to him.
Your second song “spring” came out yesterday, how did your approach differ compared to your previous release?
I would say that spring had a greater focus on the production rather than the vocal samples. Other than the vocal sample being chopped to the point of being inaudible, the whole track kinda follows the same formula as streetwise, distorted sound design and loud drums.
What’s next for girlydeath?
I look forward to dropping a short EP maybe late July and hopefully start playing shows by then. I definitely want to do my first DJ set in LA, like a small 360 stage kinda thing, so if anybody’s able to make that happen hit me up.

Is there a story behind the logo on your cover art? The promo has been great too: the street posters, the special-effects video.
There isn’t really any story behind the logo. I just thought it would be cool to make a coat-of-arms kinda logo.
I saw the hellp played your song at their Santa Monica pop-up and was dying to know the backstory. Crazy to think it might never have been released if Noah hadn’t reached out. Have you had any more contact since?
Nah, I haven’t had any contact since, but it’s still super dope to have support from a bigger act.
I really appreciate you staying true to your core while still expanding the sound. I’m at the beginning of this too, trying to build a career on the business side and help artists where I can.
Thanks Cade, you’re already killing it and I love how you keep it real. I’m in the same shoes as you bro, just starting off, but the music industry is so interesting and you never know who you might end up meeting. And I can say for certain that you can meet the right people just by staying passionate about your work and true to yourself.
